Odell Jarman Obituary
Odell Jarman passed from this life very peacefully at her home in Pauls Valley on January 14, 2023. She was 99 years old.
She was born near Stratford on August 24, 1923 and lived most of her life in Pauls Valley.
Odell was one of nine children born to Aaron "Son" and Alice Burleson during the Great Depression of the 1920s and 1930s. She would tell stories of how she and her brothers and sisters would work shocking peanuts to make money as they were growing up.
While riding around it would not be unusual for her to point to where a business currently stands and tell of how she used to pull boles there. She said they would go to work barefooted and put their feet in the shade beneath the cotton plants so the ground wouldn't burn their feet and they would take a can of pork and beans with them for dinner.
Odell enjoyed shopping, talking to her sisters on the phone and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grand children. She also enjoyed working with her two sisters, Ora Bell and Adell, as well as the other employees at Field's, Inc. making pecan pies. She began working there in 1976 and finally, at her family's urging, retired when she was 90 years old.
She attended church at the First Assembly of God Church in Pauls Valley for most of her life and saw to it that her children and grandchildren grew up in church.
She is survived by her son, Steve Jarman, and daughter, Stephanie Knighten, both of Pauls Valley; one grandson, Andrew "A.D." Sweat, and one granddaughter, Jessica Carnell, both of Pauls Valley; two great-granddaughers - Karleigh Tacker of Oklahoma City and William "Bear" Carnell Jr., Jackson Carnell and Presla Carnell of Pauls Valley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dawson Jarman; her parents who are mentioned above; her brothers Ted Burleson, Joe "Shorty" Burleson and Delbert Burleson, and her sisters Ora Bell Warren, Ruth "Midge" Burleson; her twin sister, Adell Warren, and her two younger sisters Pauline Musgrove and Carlene Long.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
