Loreen Lois Randall Riggs, 95, was gifted into this world on March 25, 1927 in Alva, Oklahoma to Dewey and Frances Randall. She passed peacefully into heaven on December 31, 2022.

Loreen was a most remarkable woman, filling the lives of everyone she knew with love, kindness, laughter, and light.

Loreen grew up in Alva; the first daughter of a Woods County Deputy Sheriff, Dewey; and; mother, Frances, a talented seamstress who encouraged their daughters to get college educations. She and her sister, DewAnn were both standout students throughout their younger years.

In high school Loreen played girls' basketball, edited the school newspaper and was active in Rainbow Girls. She attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma State College, earning her BS in Business and Education in 1949.

Throughout her college years she was affectionately known as "Red" because of her bright auburn hair. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority her entire life. She served as president of the local sorority chapter and president of the Northwestern Panhellenic Council.

Loreen was always an active volunteer, serving her community and country. The list of civic and charitable organizations she supported includes Red Cross, United Methodist Women's Missions, The Order of Eastern Star, Rotary and Pauls Valley Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Pauls Valley United Methodist Church.

Regardless of where she lived, worked, volunteered, or went, Loreen was the friend you loved best. She touched lives with her dedication, sweet smile and encouragement. It was simply her nature.

Loreen accomplished many remarkable achievements in her working career. She worked for Oklahoma City Federal Savings and Loan for 27 years, (later Continental Federal Savings and Loan) being only one of two women promoted to vice president status before retiring.

After a brief hiatus of traveling with her husband, Fred, they relocated to Medicine Park, Oklahoma, where she worked at Fort Sill Army Headquarters as an executive secretary for 5 years.

When they both retired for good, they moved to Pauls Valley, Fred's boyhood home. Loreen lived in the house they designed together for 10 years after the death of her sweet Fred in 2007.

She remained active and loved her friends and community. For her family she was always available, loving, forgiving and encouraging. She adored and was adored by her daughter and three grandchildren, her sister and two nephews.

To say Loreen will be missed greatly is an understatement. The legacy she leaves is expansive. She loved OU football, basketball and softball and always wore her crimson and cream proudly. She was an avid reader and loved shopping for herself and others, especially for shoes! She never left her house without looking her best.

Loreen was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Frances; her husband, Fred; her best friend sister, DewAnn Strahorn, and her nephew, Don.

She is survived by her only child, Deborah Sharpton; her grandchildren Shelley and Scott Haynes, Matthew and Jen Sharpton and Rebecca Sharpton; and six great grandchildren and her nephew, Tom Strahorn and his family.

The list of friends whom she loved and loved her is long and scattered across the country. Loreen lived independently until her death and was proud of that fact. At the time of her death, she was living at an independent senior community in Norman, Oklahoma, where she continued to gather friends and be active in all sorts of activities. Her Rivermont friends and the staff were honored to know her and will miss her sunny smiles.

In closing, Loreen would want to be remembered for the joy she brought, the faith she honored, the country she loved and the open arms with which she embraced life.

Loreen Riggs was a special Light . . . and will continue to shine on.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Angie Fleming.
