Joy Jacobson of Pauls Valley passed away October 24, 2022 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years with her family at her side.

Joy Burkhalter was born January 14, 1933 in Maysville, Oklahoma to Elbert Ray and Christine Baxter Burkhalter. Her mother passed away when Joy was only 5 years of age. Later her father married Avis Bynum.

Joy is a graduate of Pauls Valley High School. Afterward she worked in Oklahoma City as a secretary in an insurance company; after returning to Pauls Valley, she worked at Crabtree Drug Store.

She was married to Darrell Dean Jacobson in the Pauls Valley First Christian Church on August 28, 1954.

The Pauls Valley and Maysville area has been her home most of her life. In Pauls Valley she was a member of the Demonstration and Home Extension Club and the Mother's Club. Joy was a member of First Baptist Church of Pauls Valley where she was a Sunday School teacher and an active worker each year in the Vacation Bible School.

Her family was very important to her. She and Dean loved to take them to the Garvin County Fair to see the animals. They enjoyed traveling with them on trips in their motor home to various places to out of town ball games as well as tailgating at OSU football games where their son-in-law, John, did much of the cooking. Joy loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her father, Elbert Burkhalter, and her mother, Christine Baxter Burkhalter and her loving stepmother Avis Kundysek Burkhalter; her husband, Dean Jacobson, and son-in-law, John Poindexter.

Joy's surviving family include her children - Terry and his wife Sheila Jacobson, and Karen Poindexter, all of Pauls Valley; four grandchildren - Kelsey Williamson, Jacob Poindexter, Kirstin Hester, and Kara Poindexter; two great grandsons, Sawyer Williamson, and Cale Williamson; two brothers, Ronald Burkhalter of Florida, and Ray Burkhalter of Arkansas; as well as a host of nieces and nephews in and around Pauls Valley.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Dr. Joe Elam.
