James Brawley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma formerly of Paoli, Oklahoma, was born to Thomas Woodrow and Onellia (Wright) Brawley on February 19, 1947 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and passed from this life on October 18, 2016 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 69 years.
James grew up and attended high school in Paoli, Oklahoma. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Essex during VietnamWar.
On April 12, 1973, James married Lenda Joslin in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. From 1972-1988 James worked for H&B Apco Service Station and Garage. He worked for the Ada and Oklahoma City school systems as a mechanic for seven years. Later James worked as a mechanic for Hobby Lobby, retiring in 2006 due to health problems. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The highlights of his life were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his spare time he enjoyed raising cattle and spending time outdoors. James will be remembered for his kindness and giving to others.
Mr. Brawley is survived by his wife, Lenda Brawley of the home; 1 son, Eddy Brawley and Krista Dunlap of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 3 brothers: Denzil Brawley and wife Peggy of Paoli, Oklahoma, Terry Brawley and wife Betty of Lindsay, Oklahoma, and Jerry Brawley of Wayne, Oklahoma; 2 sisters: Virginia Schell of Wayne, Oklahoma, and Ida Nell Hill of Wayne, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren: Lynnsey Pierce and husband Ryan of Rapid City, South Dakota, Joshua Brawley of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Sheree Conley and husband Joe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jessie James Brawley of Antlers, Oklahoma, and Dustin Brawley of Norman, Oklahoma & Kyah Dunlap of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and 5 great-grandchildren: Makinize, Wade, Hayden, Joelle and Tatum.
Mr. Brawley was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Brawley Bruce; parentsThomas and Onellia Brawley; brother, Junior Brawley; 1 sister, Joan Brawley Baker his twin; and 1 grandchild, James Tyler Pruitt.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Wooster Funeral Home Chapel with James Allen Lauderdale officiating.
Interment will be in the Paoli Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
