Virginia's Story

Text size

Virginia Ann (Preston) Albritton-Warren, 79, passed away on Wednesday, October 26 in Peoria, Arizona. Virginia was a longtime resident of Pauls Valley before relocating to Arizona.
Virginia was born on May 10, 1937 in Roanoke, Virginia. She was the daughter of Clara and Charles Preston and later was adopted and raised by Reverend and Mrs. W.M. Albritton. Virginia's adoptive father, Pastor Albritton. was a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church and it was under her father's tutelage she proclaimed her faith in Jesus Christ.
During her childhood, Virginia attended various schools as a result of her father's profession. She graduated in 1956 from T.W. Daniels High School in Crossett, Arkansas.
In 1959, she married Otis Theodore Warren Sr., and shortly after getting married they moved to Pauls Valley.
A well-respected figure within the community, Virginia worked tirelessly serving her home church, Flipper Chapel AME. Virginia also served her community through mentoring several neighborhood children comprising West Town, a predominantly African-American community within Pauls Valley.
Virginia's greatest accomplishment was being a mother and homemaker. She was described by both her family and those whose lives she touched as a "giver and motivator." Her ability to see in others their potential and God-given talent, as a result of her unwavering faith, is what motivated countless youngsters she has mentored to pursue and achieve successful careers in the areas of business, education, military as well as many other professional disciplines.
Proceeded in her death: Her beloved husband, Otis Theodore Warren Sr.; parents William and Sophia Albritton; and great-grandson, Matthew Olivas.
She is survived by her four children: Otis Theodore Warren Jr. (wife Krissy) of Bakersfield, California, Charitta Riva Warren-Shelton (husband Burrell) of Glendale, Arizona, Vincent Edwin Warren of Norman, Oklahoma, and Darrell DeWayne Warren (wife Sylvia) of El Paso, Texas; 17 grandchildren: Amber and Angela Shelton; Corey, Olivia, Autumn and Caleb Warren; Daniel and Michael Warren; Maritta, Samone, and Shamicka Prince; Wynter, Lexus and Vincent Warren Jr.; and Deidra, Desiree and Isaiah Morales; and seven great grandchildren: Jaylen Shelton; Jordyn Kinnard; Cayden Warren; Dimagio and Santiago Vega; and Jaydn and Dominic Serna.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 5 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church located at 311 North Dunbar in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
