Theresa's Story

Text size

Theresa Gwendolyn (Landers) Blalock - Her favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 43:1, "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!" He has indeed called her name, to join Him in glory, to grace the heavenly halls with Him and all the angels.
Theresa Blalock, 97, was born February 9, 1920 in Elmore City, Oklahoma to J.W. and Stella Jones Landers. The family moved to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, when she was four years old.
Her parents and all eight other siblings (Berniece Spears, Wylie Landers, Valter Landers, Ruby Rayburn, Onus Landers, Evelyn Bridges, Pauline Pratt, and William "Bill" Landers) preceded Theresa in entering God's kingdom.
Theresa called Pauls Valley her home for the remainder of her extraordinary life. She married her high school sweetheart (and soulmate), Eugene Blalock, on January 27, 1940. They celebrated their 71st anniversary in 2011 as Gene passed away 12/12/2011.
A faithful member of the First United Methodist Church for nearly 70 years, Theresa served in numerous capacities including MYF sponsor several times, Sunday School teacher, administrative board member, and on various committees.
A devoted mother and civic worker, Theresa was president of Jackson School PTA, the PTA Council, and Homeroom Mother for each of her children numerous times; twice president of the American Legion Auxiliary; president of Mother's Study Club, president of the Pauls Valley Band Boosters (at the time of construction of the Wacker Park Band Shell). She was a Boy Scout Den Mother as well as a Girl Scout Troop Leader receiving honors from the Chickasaw Council of Girl Scouts.
Theresa was a charter member of the Pauls Valley General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and president of the Oklahoma University Mothers Association in 1964.
In fact, Theresa was president of every organization she ever joined! While busy with all these organizations, she continued to encourage her four children to be involved in their corresponding activities including sports, dancing, singing, band, music, piano, school, cheerleading, church, community outreach, etc.
Eugene has been patiently waiting at Heaven's Gate since Dec 12, 2011 for his sweetheart, to hold her hand as they stroll the streets of gold. Their "joy-boy" son, Paul, killed in an automobile accident at age 20 in 1964, leads a band of angels playing his saxophone for his most loyal fan as she sings the chorus of her favorite hymn.
Joining in the reunion is her beautiful granddaughter, Chezley Camille Howle, smiling and hugging her sweet "Mommom." Two precious great-grandchildren, Aisley and Denson Scruggs, saunter into Mommom's loving arms.
Son-in-law Norman Meier greets Theresa, who passed away January 16, 2018, with his big smile and hearty hello! Contentment reigns seeing God's promises abound!
Retired Judge Candace Landers Blalock and her husband Dan Sprouse, Phyllis Boone and her husband Larry, and Christy Meier mourn the loss of their mother from this earthly realm but celebrate her joyful life.
Lovingly remembering their remarkable "Mommom" are her grandchildren: Ambre and Ron Gooch, Chelsea Boone and Patrick Bolen, Justin Sprouse, Brittany and Kevin Scruggs, Alaina and James Risinger; and her great-grandchildren: Talor Gooch, Cassidi Gooch, Savanna Bolen, and triplets Jeter, Harper and Brier Scruggs.
She will be remembered lovingly by nieces from Pauls Valley to include Pam Agnew, Frann Pratt, and Barbara Crews.
Our mother was an eloquent lady, a prolific writer, an artist, a musician, a performer, a dancer, a singer...an inspiration as a Mother, Wife, Woman, Christian, and Humanitarian. She will be irreplaceable in our lives and hearts, and greatly missed! We love you Mother...'til we meet again!
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Don Griffin.
Memorial services and cremation are under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the family's guestbook at the Guest Book link.
