Roberta's Story

Roberta Emily Owens of Pauls Valley passed away December 29, 2016 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years.
Roberta Emily Tinkham was born October 5, 1927 in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Harry and Rachel (Barker) Tinkham. She grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1945.
In 1956 Roberta married Jean Blan Owens. The couple moved from Oklahoma City to Midland, Texas, then to Russell, Kansas before settling in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma in 1959.
Roberta was very active in her church and community. She served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years. She attended the Church of Christ where she enjoyed teaching children's Bible classes and hosting youth events.
She enjoyed many years as the Jefferson Elementary School secretary. After many years of employment, she retired from the Garvin County Farm Bureau Insurance office in 1992.
Roberta enjoyed OU football, cooking, sewing, arts and crafts, but her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Rachel Tinkham; her husband, Jean Blan Owens; two brothers, Bill Tinkham and Jim Tinkham; and a sister, Mary Martin.
Surviving family include her two daughters - Susan Capers and her husband James of Pauls Valley, and Beverly Gandy of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren - Rachel Figueiredo and her husband Michael of Edmond, Okla., Ben Capers and his wife Brooke of McAlester, Okla., and Chandler Gandy of Austin, Texas; four great grandchildren - Reid Figueiredo, Eli Capers, Hope Figueiredo and Hudson Capers; one brother, Ralph Tinkham of Oklahoma City; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Viewing and visitation will be Saturday, December 31, 2016 and Monday, January 2, 2017 from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home Chapel.
