Ray's Story

Ray Melvin Newton of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma was born to Robert and Hester on October 10, 1937 in Caldwell, Texas and passed from this life on May 3, 2017 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 79 years.
Ray grew up and attended Lincoln High School in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. He then served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Ray retired from the U.S. Air Force after 33 1/2 years of service, making his home in the Pauls Valley area.
In his spare time he enjoyed music and he loved people. Ray would give you the shirt off of his back if needed, and the highlight of his life was his family.
Mr. Newton is survived by his son: Ray Newton Jr. and wife Rose of Wichita Falls, Texas; 4 daughters: Michelle Faulkner and husband Michael of Wichita Falls, Texas, Tracy Johnson and husband Darryle of Fort Worth, Texas, Denise Stafford and husband Ray of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and Janna Thurman and husband Rev. Terence of The Colony, Texas; brother: Alvin Ford of Midwest City, Oklahoma; 3 sisters: Shelley Ford of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Reva Newton of Midwest City, Oklahoma; and Amelia Stevenson of Forest Park, Georgia; a special friend: Mary Hudson of Purcell, Oklahoma; 2 "very special" sisters-in-law: Claudia Newton of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Vernetta Faye Peters of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Hester Newton; brother Paul Newton; and sister Carolyn Swift.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma with Rev. Michael Ford officiating.
