A celebration of the life of Patricia Darlene Turner will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Elmore City Cemetery. Patricia passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the age of 66.
Patricia was born on June 21, 1950 in Hutchison, Kansas to Willis and Betty (Morris) Pitts.
She graduated from high school in Buhler, Kansas and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in reading. Patricia was only 9 hours away from completing her doctorate degree.
Patricia was an elementary and special education teacher at Wilburton schools. She loved children and she was an excellent teacher.
On July 3, 1968 Patricia married Wiley Turner in a Gainesville, Texas wedding ceremony. Their union was blessed with three children and endured more than 48 years. Patricia was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She adored her family and loved spending time with them.
Patricia's work with children and in education didn't stop at the classroom door. She also helped with 74 international students, volunteered at the library, and helped write the certification updates for state teachers. Patricia also helped write a special education textbook and was a member of National Education Association and the Oklahoma Education Association.
In her free time, Patricia enjoyed quilting and crafting treasured keepsakes for her family. She also loved reading murder mysteries.
Memorials to reflect Patricia's love of reading and education may be made to your local library.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Wiley Turner of Talihina, Okla.; children Rodney Turner and wife Stacie of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Shari Newcomb of McAlester, Okla.; grandchildren Alyx Turner, Jessica Perkins, Jon and Lenea Newcomb, and Kendal Newcomb; sisters Janine Hynson of Excelsior Spring, Mo., Joyce Welch of Temple, Texas, and Debbie Corral of Hutchinson, Kansas; and brothers Bill Pitts of Hutchinson, Kansas, Tom Pitts of Hutchinson, Kansas, Sam Pitts of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Jason Pitts of Hutchinson, Kansas.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and son Jeremy Don Turner.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home in Broken Arrow.
