Opal Iris Cook Pearson, 87, born October 22, 1928, in Foster, Okla., was the fourth child, second daughter of Walter L. and Bessie A. Simmons Cook. She passed away July 17, 2016 at 1 a.m. with her family by her side. Opal grew up in the Garvin/Stephens/McClain counties area. She earned her high school diploma from Dibble High School. Opal married James Raymond Honeycutt in 1947 while he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1953, Mr. Honeycutt died from an automobile accident. Opal supported herself and her two children by cooking at various restaurants in the Garvin County area. Opal was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Pauls Valley, Okla. In May,1962, Opal, with children Judy and Donnie, married Pete Pearson, with children Wanda, Buck, Brenda and Carla. Altogether, Jackie was welcomed to their blended family. Opal and Pete were married 40 years until his death in 2002. They lived their married life in Pauls Valley, Okla. More than anything, Opal valued her family, friends and hard work. She demonstrated her love by cooking for others. You could never leave her home without a care package. Holidays she delivered food to friends and neighbors who had no place to go. If you were real lucky, you were the recipient of a cake, pie, cookies or candy. She is survived by her daughter Judy Simmons and special friend, Elizabeth Shebester. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Amanda and husband Austin Brackeen, Todd and Luke Pearson; great-grandchildren: Chloe Broussard, Caityn Brackeen and Cassidy Brackeen, Rylan Curry; and sister, Virginia Jackson. Batman and Pippa were beloved companions. Opal was preceded in death by her husband Pete Pearson; sons Donnie Honeycutt and Jackie Pearson; grandson Jamie Honeycutt; step-daughter Brenda Smith; parents; brothers Edward, Jack, and Bub Cook; and sisters: Ila Stephens and Dovie Taylor. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home Chapel.
