Naomi's Story

Naomi Marie Tate of Pauls Valley passed away December 21, 2017 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years.
Naomi was born October 1, 1930 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Earl and Myrtle (Moore) Chandler. She grew up in Seminole and attended school there. Later she earned her Bachelor's of Science degree in Education and went on to earn her Master's degree in Education at East Central University in Ada.
She taught in Anaco, Venezuela, teaching there for three years and then in Pauls Valley; and has lived in different parts of the country including, Oklahoma City and Guymon. Naomi returned to make Pauls Valley her home in 1961 and has lived here since.
She was married to Dave L. Tate. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1985. Naomi was a member of Pauls Valley First Assembly of God Church.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, Earl and Myrtle Chandler; and one son, Don Tate; one sister, Lou Daugherty; and four brothers - J.T. Chandler, Kenneth Chandler, Edward Chandler, and James Chandler.
Surviving family include her children Sheila Rayburn and husband L.D., Gary Tate, and Rick Tate and wife Joyce, all of Pauls Valley; two sisters - Neva Bowles and husband Rev. Billy Bowles, and Eva Griffin, two brothers - Paul Chandler and wife Betty, and Earl Chandler and wife Louise; six grandchildren - David Arthurs, Angela Arthurs, Crystal Rayburn, Jeff Rayburn, Natalye Tate, Ashlye Leon and husband Tyler; seven great-grandchildren - Bryce Arthurs, Bryanna Arthurs, Nora Beth Arthurs, Callie Gauthier, Annabelle Leon, Charlie Leon and Graham Leon; one great-great grandchild, Tyler Allman, and one on the way; as well as a very dear friend, Gayle Smith of Pauls Valley.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Billy Bowles and Earl D. Chandler. Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
