Mattie's Story

Mattie Lou Cottrell of Pauls Valley passed away January 15, 2017 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years.
Mrs. Cottrell was born September 21, 1929 in Paoli, Oklahoma to Alpheus Parish and Madge Jewel Griffith.
Mattie was married to Jimmy Cottrell and were blessed with two children: Debbie and David. For the past 44 years, she has made her home in Paoli.
Mattie dearly loved her children and grandchildren and was an avid animal lover. She enjoyed staying home and taking care of her pets and caring for stray animals that would come her way. Mrs. Cottrell was a member of Paoli First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alpheus Parish and Madge Jewel Griffith; two brothers, Harold Griffith and Wilbert Griffith; and her sister, Bobbie Sue Dunkin.
She is survived by her one daughter and husband, Debbie and Steve English of Paoli; one son and his wife, David and Anita Cottrell of Pauls Valley; four grandchildren: Brandon and wife Amy English, and Chad English, all of Paoli, Jeremy and wife Kimberly Cottrell of Nashville, Tennessee, April and Jered Cartwright of Ada; five great-grandchildren: Kailee and Laney English, Joshua Cottrell, Ethan Cartwright, and Loren Cartwright; one brother and his wife, Don and Shirley Griffith of Sand Springs; and one sister-in-law, Fay Griffith of Glenpool.
In lieu of flowers the family requests the memorial be sent P.A.W.S. Animal Shelter.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Stufflebean-Coffey Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Rev. Terry Erwin.
Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
