Leon Boyd Driskill of Pauls Valley passed away July 10, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years.
Leon was born September 30, 1930 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to John William and Zella Evelyn (Brister) Driskill. He was raised in rural Pauls Valley and attended Klondike grade school and is a graduate of Pauls Valley High School.
He was married to Devonia Leigh Hines in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on March 10, 1951. Leon worked for Shebester, Inc. for 21 years. He also worked for 20 years for Colley & Company as a warehouse foreman.
He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Leon was also a member of the Pauls Valley Lodge #6 and a 32 Degree Mason as well as a member of the India Shriners.
Leon was known by many names in his lifetime - son, brother, friend, loving husband, daddy, grandpa Leon, Pupaw. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember the wintergreen mints you could always find in his shirt pocket and the wonderfully endless practical jokes and "Grandpa Leon stories."
Friends will remember his joy in working with fellow Masons and Shriners in their efforts to help children. We will also remember his never-ending youthful spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Zella Evelyn (Brister) Drishill; wife, Deveonia Leigh (Hines) Driskill; daughter, Ramonia Kay Garis; 3 brothers - Harrell Driskill, Darrell Driskill and Weldon Driskill; sister, Betty Godkin; and granddaughter, Kristen Wray.
Leon is survived by his daughter and her husband, Debra and Larry McManus of Pauls Valley; two grandchildren - Courtney Green and her husband Heath of Pauls Valley and Staff Sergeant Jared McManus and his wife Melissa of Okinawa, Japan; a very special niece (his "daughter number 3"), Vickie McGinley of Moore, Okla.; five great-grandchildren - Jackson Green, Parker Green, and Victoria Green, of Pauls Valley, Ryan McManus and Kaylie McManus of Okinawa, Japan; one sister and her husband, Sue and Dub Kimberlin of Pauls Valley; and son-in-law, Thomas Garis of Enid, Okla. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family requests that memorials in Leon Driskill's name be sent to the Nora Sparks-Warren
Library at 210 N. Willow, for children's books; or to the Trinity Baptist Church at P.O. Box 593, both are in Pauls Valley, Ok 73075.
