Karen's Story

Text size

Karen Kay (Sims) Potts, 64, was born on July 31, 1952 to Betty June (Smith) Sims and George Leslie Sims in Pauls Valley, Okla. Karen entered eternal life on April 14, 2017 at her home in Paoli, Okla., surrounded by her loving family.
In her youth, Karen attended school and grew up in the Pauls Valley area. She accepted Christ at the age of 9 years old.
On October 12, 1968 she married the love of her life, Frank Potts Jr., in Pauls Valley. Over the duration of their marriage, through it all, the good times and bad, the thick and the thin, they were inseparable for nearly 45 years until Frank's passing in 2013.
Karen was much more than a career homemaker. She was an extremely devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the definition of a "mother hen" and made it her priority to do everything she could possibly do to take care of all of her loved ones.
In her little spare time, Karen enjoyed cooking, crochet, embroidery and watching her children and grandchildren play sports. She absolutely loved watching Oklahoma City Thunder basketball and seldom missed watching their games.
Karen is preceded in death by her husband Frank Potts Jr., her mother Betty June Sims and her father George Leslie Sims.
She is survived by six children: Frank Potts III and wife Libby of Paoli, Cindy Lynn and husband Gary of Foster, Okla., Janice Beasley and husband Billy of Pauls Valley, Aaron Potts of Paoli, Allen Potts and wife Lindsey of Pauls Valley, and Ashley Potts of Paoli.
Karen had 5 grandchildren: Seth Potts, Jared Lynn and Caitlin Lynn, Khloee Potts and Dustyn Beasley. She had one great-grandchild, Piper Potts. Surviving siblings include sisters Sharon Bagwell, Brenda Tillery and Debbie Scott and a brother, Buster Sims of Pauls Valley, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Karen's strength, wisdom, perseverance, sense of humor and work ethic will be missed by all. Her children and siblings will greatly miss her phone calls checking in to make sure that all is okay with them. She was heroic and inspirational in dealing with her illness, all the while being more concerned about her children and siblings than her own well being.
Funeral services for Mrs. Potts are scheduled for Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Wooster Funeral Home Chapel in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Interment will be at the Paoli Cemetery, Paoli, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Wooster Funeral. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woosterfuneralhomes.com.
