Joyce Sue Christian was born to Herman Gradie and Jewell (Houck) Hoppe in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on July 7, 1935 and passed from this life on January 7, 2017 at her home at the age of 81 years.
They moved to Guymon, Oklahoma and then to Antioch, Oklahoma where she attended school and later to Elmore City High School where she graduated in 1953.
She married Bobby Dean Christian on June 14, 1953. Bob had joined the Army so they moved to Maryland until Bob served in term with the Army and they moved back to Oklahoma.
Sue worked for the Garvin County Courthouse and Dowell where she retired. She and Bob owned many businesses in Elmore City. Car wash, laundry mat, parts store, mini storages, septic tank business and family farm. She and Bob volunteered many hours in Elmore City.
She was a member of the Poor Boy CB Club, Elmore City Round Up Club, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Lady Auxiliary, Katie Missionary Baptist Church and many other organizations.
Sue has worked the Angel Tree in Elmore City for many years. She enjoyed making sure children had a good Christmas.
She worked for the election board, Census, and Department of Agriculture. Sue worked doing agricultural surveys up until April of this past year.
Sue was survived by her daughter, Dena York of Katie; sons: Brent Christian and wife Cheryl of Katie, and Scott Christian and Wendy of Katie; 1 brother, Melvin Hoppe and wife Iris; 1 sister-in-law, Jean Hoppe of Ada.
Grandchildren: Jamie Solie and husband Burl, Micah Christian and wife Stephanie, Amber York, Shane Christian, Nathanael Christian, Dylan Christian and wife Ginger, Toni Goforth and husband Paul, Cody York and wife Kyleigh, Molly McConnell and husband Michael, Gena Childress and husband Jonathon, and Tyler Christian; 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and "tons" of nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband Bob Christian; son Wesley Christian; parents Grady and Jewell Hoppe; and brothers Myrle and Dale Hoppe.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Wooster Funeral Home Chapel in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
Interment will be in the Katie Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
