Joya's Story

Joya Helen Rose of Wynnewood, Oklahoma was born to John Annis and Vennettea (Baugh) Pope on September 13, 1926 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma and passed from this life on September 15, 2016 in Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years.
Joya grew up in and graduated from high school in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. In her younger years, Joya enjoyed riding horses and cheerleading. She was a hairdresser and worked up into her eighties.
Joya was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. She spent all of her life teaching Sunday school. In her spare time, she sewed and continued her love of riding horses.
The highlights of her life were her children, grandchildren, and church.
Mrs. Rose is survived by her sons Raymond D. "Corkey" Garrett and wife Sandi of Wynnewood, Oklahoma, and John David Rose Jr. of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; step-son, Gene Rose of Las Vegas, Nevada; step-daughter, Sheila Bennett of Comfort, Texas; sister, Ann Pope Mullins of Ada, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren: Lori Fulks, Lisa Thornton, Lynna Tinnin, Chase Rose, Chance Rose, Cherokee Rose, Greg Bennett, Stacey Minor, Travis Bennett and Kelly Rose; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rose was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Rose, and parents, John and Vennettea Pope.
Funeral services were scheduled for Monday, September 19, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Chance Rose officiating. Interment was in the Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
