James "Jim"'s Story
James Edward "Jim" Courtney of Elmore City, Oklahoma was born to Hulan and Cordia (Franklin) Courtney on May 10, 1942 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and passed from this life on October 15, 2016 in Elmore City, Oklahoma at the age of 74 years.
Jim grew up and attended school in Elmore City with his two sisters. He married his sweetheart of 53 years, Linda Lee (Kay) Minnick, on September 18, 1963 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Together made their home in Elmore City where they raised two beautiful daughters.
Jim worked for many years in the oil field. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.
The highlights of his life were raising his two daughters and later his two grandsons. Jim loved to aggravate everyone. He taught others to not ask anything you wouldn't do yourself, to smile and speak to everyone.
Mr. Courtney is survived by his wife, Linda (Kay) Courtney of the home; 2 daughters: Katrina Courtney of the home, and Mitzee Martin and husband Lance of Elmore City, Oklahoma; 2 grandchildren, Gunner Martin and Tyler Martin; and a host of family and friends.
Mr. Courtney was preceded in death by his parents Hulan and Cordia Courtney, and sisters Betty Warren and Norma Moore.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 24, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Elmore City First Baptist Church with Bro. Jimmy Balentine officiating.
Interment will be in the Elmore City Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
