Harry Elmore "Sandy" Saunders of Byars, Oklahoma was born on April 4, 1931 in Brookneal, Virginia and passed from this life on May 3, 2017 in Midwest City, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years.
Sandy grew up and attended school in Brookneal, Virginia. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
On August 22, 1953, Sandy married Mary Allen in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He worked for Cook Electric in Oklahoma City. He also raised cattle and worked for the Pauls Valley State School. For a number of years he worked at Jerry's Self Service Station in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
In his spare time he enjoyed yard work, feeding his hummingbirds, and going to the lake with his grandkids. The highlights of his life were his family and friends. Sandy was affectionately known as "PamPaw."
Mr. Saunders is survived by his son, Rick Saunders of Byars, Oklahoma; daughters: Denise Sharber and husband Zane of Byars, Oklahoma, and Debbie Baker and husband Larry of Statham, Georgia; sister, Arlene Roark of Chesapeake, Virginia; 4 grandchildren: Derrie Sharber, Brian Baker, Matt Baker, and Nicholi Anderson; and 5 great-grandchildren: Jaden Anderson, Brayden Baker, Kason Sharber, R.J. Baker, Karlinn Baker.
Mr. Saunders was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Saunders in 2007; parents, Sam Saunders and Gracie Lee Saunders; 2 brothers, S.R. Saunders and Conway Saunders; and sister, Alice Sanders.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Wooster Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Ridgeway officiating.
Interment will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home. You may send a condolence to the family at www.woosterfuneralhomes.com.
