Gracie's Story

Gracie Leona Johnson of Elmore City, Oklahoma was born to Silas and Leora (Looney) Ward on October 9, 1927 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma and passed from this life on December 24, 2017 at her home in Katie, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years.
Gracie grew up in the Maysville/Story area. She farmed with her dad cutting broomcorn and pulling cotton.
On May 16, 1951, Gracie married Glen Johnson in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. She worked as a caregiver at the Pauls Valley State School. In her spare time, she enjoyed loving on her grandchildren, watching Wheel-Of-Fortune, reading the newspaper and the Bible. The most important thing she taught others was the importance of faith and family.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her sons - Stanley Johnson and wife Sue of Elmore City, Oklahoma, Grant Johnson and wife Sandra of Ada, Oklahoma, and Galyn Johnson and wife Carla of Elmore City, Oklahoma; daughter, Debi Harrell of Elmore City, Oklahoma; brother, Sonny Ward and wife Francis of Del City, Oklahoma; sisters - Hazel Carroll of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Minnie Heard of Del City, Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Johnson; son, Sterling Johnson; daughters Terri Billy and Gayla Johnson; parents Silas and Leora Ward; brothers Melvin Ward and Bill Ward; sisters Ollie Benthall, Susie Miller, Margie Dennis, and Wanda Blake; and granddaughters Leah Grace Harrell, Sarah Johnson and Wynter Johnson.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Church of Christ in Elmore City, Oklahoma with Joe Terrell officiating.
