Elwanda's Story

Elwanda (Winnie) Loyd of Pauls Valley passed away August 22, 2017 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years. Elwanda was born February 22, 1925 in Maud, Oklahoma to Bill and Lea (Cameron) Smith.
Winnie was raised on a farm west of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and is a graduate of Maysville High School. As a child she rode a horse to attend grade schools and junior high school at Garvin Springs, Bug Scuffle, and Whitebead.
As a single girl she was one of the original "Rosie the Riviter's" who took jobs in American factories to replace the men who had gone to war.
Jack and Elwanda married on November 15, 1944 in Mountain Home, Idaho where Jack was stationed in the Air Force prior to being shipped out overseas. They were blessed with two daughters and a son - Barbara (deceased), Oma Dell, and Lynn.
Growing up, Elwanda attended Love Baptist Church where she was baptized. For many years she has been a member of Trinity Baptist Pauls Valley.
Winne was active in VFW Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Elks Club, and the Chickasaw Senior Site. She was a proud member of the Citizen Potawatomie Tribe attending annual Pow Wow's.
Winnie sold AVON for 50+ years and was lovingly known as the AVON Lady. Winnie sewed many dance costumes, loved trying out new recipes, and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a great domino player, enjoyed her trips to the casino and was a master at knitting.
Elwanda and Jack were grandparents to many neighbors and families in Pauls Valley.
Most of all she loved her family. Winnie was a tireless mom, a gracious granny, and a doting GiGi (great grandma).
Winnie is preceded in death by her husband Jack (Marion Christopher); one daughter, Barbra; her parents, Bill and Lea Smith; two sisters, Betty Clark and Carmen Rennie; and two brothers, Frank and Clarence Smith.
Elwanda leaves a living legacy of a daughter Oma Dell Burns and husband Butch; son Lynn Loyd and wife Rebecca; grandchildren Esther Adkison, Christi Griffin and husband Tracy, Jacque Middlecamp and husband Matt, Lyndsey Cryer and husband Foster, Jesse Loyd and wife Jenny, Kortney Carnes and husband Josh, Christina Hankins and husband Josh; and great-grandchildren: Macheala Adkison, Tiffany Adkison, KJ Adkison, Jaci Griffin, Landon Griffin, Deacon Middlecamp, Kenyan Middlecamp, Witten Cryer, Ronan Cryer, Jackson Loyd, Davis Loyd, Kathryn Loyd, Dalton Carnes, Hadley Carnes, Ansley Carnes, Maebry Hankins and Emilia Hankins.
The family requests that memorials be sent in memory of Elwanda Loyd to the Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund at PO Box 593, Pauls Valley, OK 73075 or % LaDonna Culp Mercy Hospital, 1000 S. Byrd, Tishomingo Oklahoma 73460.
Celebration of Life services will be held Friday, August 25, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Stufflebean-Coffey Chapel of Remembrance, led by family members.
Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the family's guestbook at the Guest Book link.
Pallbearers are Tracy Griffin, KJ Adkison, Matt Middlecamp, Jesse Loyd, Foster Cryer and Ray Rennie. Honorary pallbearers are Landon Griffin, Tom Rennie, Rod Rennie, Keith Rennie, Joe Clark and Tracy Loyd.
