Elden Leon Michael

Events

Elden Leon (Buck) Michael, 92, was born February 9, 1927 in Paoli, Oklahoma to parents Leonard H. and Roxie B. (Craddock) Michael and passed from this life on July 21, 2019.
He has fond memories of growing up with his 6 siblings in the Paoli area. His family heard many stories about his youthful pranks while growing up. At an early age he was given the nickname "Buck" by an older brother and this became the name he was known by.
He attended school at Randolph through 8th grade, then transferred to the Paoli District to complete his education. Before he could complete his senior year, he was drafted into the Army to serve in WWII. He completed his training and was shipped to Panama where he took correspondence courses to complete his high school classes. He was honorably discharged in 1947 and returned to Paoli to receive his diploma with the graduating class of 1947.
In 1948 he married Maureen Womble in Hot Springs, Arkansas where they lived for 2 years before returning to Pauls Valley. Their children include 2 sons, Gary Wayne and Robert Ken, and 1 daughter, Linda Diane.
Buck worked for J.C. Penney Company in Pauls Valley for 13 years and made many friends in Garvin County. Those years prepared him for his second career when he ran for, and won, the office of Court Clerk for Garvin County.
No one ever enjoyed a career more than Buck enjoyed his years in the court system. He was known for having a Bible verse or song to fit every situation and frequently would break into a song to prove a point. It is interesting to note that following Buck's retirement, the next three elected court clerks in Garvin County had served as his deputies.
After serving 23 years in office, Buck retired at which time he and Maureen moved to Norman, Okla., where he worked as bailiff for the judges in Cleveland County.
Buck completed over 40 years in the Oklahoma Court System before his second retirement. In 2005, Buck and Maureen moved to Texas to be near family.
Preceding Buck in death were his parents; 4 brothers - Lavoy, Ernest, Herbert and Ronald; and 2 sisters, June Pigg and Wanda Williamson Kidd.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Maureen; 2 sons - Gary Wayne and his wife Margaret of Norman, Okla., and Ken and his wife Misty of Sachse, Texas; 1 daughter, Linda Lowther and her husband Gene of Little Elm, Texas; 4 granddaughters - Alicia Clifton and her husband Geoff of Moore, Okla., Mindy Ulrich and her husband Jeff of Grosse Pointe, Mi., Kari Foster and her husband John of Moore, Okla., and McKinley Michael of Sachse, Texas; 1 grandson, Justin Michael and his wife Madelyn of Richardson, Texas; 6 great-grandsons - Bradyn and Brock Clifton, Masen and Keaton Ulrich, and Tannon and Silas Foster; 2 great-granddaughters, Kylei and Makinlei Foster; as well as several nieces and nephews along with a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at North Cities UPC, officiated by Justin Michael and Ministerial Staff of North Cities UPC, located at 502 Belt Line Road in Garland, Texas 75040.
Interment was at Paoli Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the family's guestbook at www.stufflebeanfuneralhome.com.
