Catherine's Story

Text size

Catherine Dennis, 82, left this earth to walk through the gates of heaven Saturday night, June 25, 2016. She was surrounded by the love of all her children. Catherine passed from this life with the grace and dignity in which she lived. Catherine Louise Milligan was born Friday, August 4, 1933 to Vernon and Myrtle Reese Arnn Milligan in Stratford, Oklahoma. She moved to Pauls Valley at a young age and lived there the remainder of her life. She met the love of her life, Roy Austin Dennis, in the summer of 1950. Catherine had gone on a date to the movies when Austin walked up to her and asked if she would like to come sit with him. She said yes she would. They eloped to Gainesville and were married September 9, 1950. Their marriage lasted 54 years until Austin’s death in April 2004. Catherine worked in food service at the Pauls Valley State School for 28 years. She was proud of the fact she had mastered the perfect meringue pie. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were at the center of her life and she was the most happiest when they were gathered around. She enjoyed cooking family meals every Thursday and Sunday. When she became too ill to prepare Sunday lunch, her daughter and daughters-in-law carried on the tradition for her. She is survived by four children, her daughter and her husband Donna and Frank Richards of Lawton, her sons and their wives, Gary and Kay Dennis of Sparta, Tennessee, Jeff and Vickie Dennis of Paoli, Tim and Ruthann Dennis of Pauls Valley; eight grandchildren - Eric and Heather Smith of Lawton, Leah Moss of Davis, Mitchell and Danielle Dennis of Paoli and Tara Jo Dennis of Paoli, Heather and Matt Beasley of Davis, Kenny Dennis, and Kyle Dennis of Pauls Valley, Macall and Justin Lorio of Lafayette, Louisiana; 12 great-grandchildren - Hannah and Cody Combes of Davis, Gracie Eggleston, Mattie Beasley and Cole Beasley of Davis, Austyn Smith and Julia Saupitty of Lawton, Jenna and Shailynn Dennis of Paoli, October Baker of Paoli, Cutter Dennis of Pauls Valley, Baby Clark Lorio of Lafayette, Louisiana; and one great-great-grandson, Mason James Morales of Lawton. Catherine is also survived by one sister, Eula Oller of Elmore City; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Dee Milligan of Pauls Valley and Kenneth and Ruby Milligan of Arlington, Texas; one sister-in-law, Violet Milligan of Pauls Valley; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and well-loved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Myrtle Milligan; her husband Roy Austin Dennis; brother Willis ‘Red’ Milligan; and sister Georgia Schiemann.
