Billy's Story

Billy Gene Leverett, 78, was born June 11, 1939 and passed peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on January 8, 2018 in Pauls Valley after a lengthy illness.
Billy felt called to serve in the U.S. Army and altered his birthdate so that he could join early. He started his career in 1960. Billy served three tours of duty in Vietnam and tours in Germany, Turkey, and different duty stations in the United States including Alaska where he retired after serving in the U.S. Army for 25 years.
He moved to the Wynnewood area where he worked at the Pauls Valley State School for eight years and then he worked with the Chickasaw Nation for several years.
He answered the call to come out of retirement from the Army and into the Readiness Reserves during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm conflict.
He and his wife, Paula, moved to Claremore for a few years and then to Greenville, Texas and then they returned to the Pauls Valley area.
Billy leaves behind a loving wife, Paula Perry Leverett; his daughters Sharyn, Lena, and Reja, and his sons Michael and Billy Jr.; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; his brothers John Leverett and Mansel John Leverett; sister Rose Marie Leverett; and sister-in-law Sylvia Hammond.
He is preceded in death by his father, Mansel Leverett; mother, Ruby Lee Hays Wooten; sister, Peggy Velitti; sister, Loretta Roese; brother, Max Leverett; mother-in-law, Reja Gladys Perry; grandson, Shelby James Blessin; and great-granddaughter, Hendrix.
Funeral services will be at Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018.
A graveside service will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with full military honors.
