Betty's Story

Text size

Betty Jean Jacobson of Pauls Valley was born in Topeka, Kansas to Lewis and Anna (Stone) Hooper in 1929 and passed away May 8, 2017 at the age of 88.
She was raised in Logan, Kansas where she met and married the love of her life, Gayle M. Jacobson, on January 3, 1948. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma where Gayle went into business with his father, L.A. Jacobson, one uncle, Carl Jacobson, and two of his brothers, Max and Dean Jacobson, to form a ready mixed concrete company.
Family was her life. Although raising five children had its challenges, she cherished each and every minute. Betty was not only a devoted mother to her own children, she was adored by every cousin and friend of theirs, often baking cookies and cinnamon rolls for after school treats. She enjoyed countless family holiday gatherings and numerous family reunions with both the Hooper and Jacobson families.
After raising five children, Betty became a bookkeeper for the family business where she worked several years before retiring in the early 1980s. She also enjoyed gardening and loved volunteering with the Pauls Valley General Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Betty spent the last five years of her life at the Willows Assisted Living Center where she made many new friends of both residents and staff.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Anna Hooper; her husband, Gayle Jacobson; one son, Ben Jacobson; one daughter, Cheryl Hansen; one brother, William "Bill" Hooper; two brothers-in-law, Max Jacobson and Richard Jacobson; and one sister-in-law, Ardith Thompson.
