Bernice's Story

Bernice Dora Ayres of Elmore City, Oklahoma was born to T.O. and Dorietta (Bratcher) Horn on March 20, 1938 in Vera, Texas and passed from this life on September 21, 2016 at her home at the age of 78 years.
Bernice grew up and attended school in Morenci, Arizona and attended college at Durant and USAO in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She obtained a bachelor's degree in education, art and English.
On September 8, 1956, Bernice married Bobby Ayres in Lordsburg, New Mexico. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Alex, Oklahoma.
In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, painting, photography, and sewing. She was always giving to others, including sharing food and faith.
Mrs. Ayres is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bobby of the home; son, Bro. Thomas Ayres and wife Michelle of Longview, Texas; 2 daughters: Patricia Podhajski and husband Joe of Midwest City, Oklahoma, and Karen Itzel and husband Bill of Baltimore, Maryland; 2 step-daughters: Barbara Lason of Clifton, Arizona, and Shirley Stewart and husband Mike of Pason, Arizona; 3 brothers: Robert Horn of Florida, David Horn and wife Joyce of Tucson, Arizona, and Donald Horn of Safford, Arizona; 19 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ayres was preceded in death by her parents, T.O. and Dorietta Horn; daughter, Tammy Ayres; brother, Tommy Horn; and sister, Brenda Lemons.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Satterwhite Missionary Baptist Church and 10 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Alex, Okla.
